Pumpkin Cravings

Who isn’t craving pumpkin this time of year? It may sound easy to fulfill my pumpkin cravings by snatching up one of those large pumpkin pies Costco sells, devour them, and call it a day. But as a low-carb eater (have been for a while), I got a few extra hurdles to jump over. And I’m aware that pumpkin isn’t low-carb, but some of it for a day (OK, probably this whole holiday weekend) won’t totally wreck me. Plus, it’s the holidays and there’s nothing wrong with a little indulgence!

You can thank Bath & Body Works’ Pumpkin Pecan Waffles body spray (which is what I’m currently wearing, don’t judge) for influencing my breakfast: Pumpkin Pecan Chaffles. (For extra oomph, invest in some pumpkin spice extract and add a teaspoon of it to the recipe.) I also wanted to get a head start on my Thanksgiving cooking, so I whipped up some pumpkin pie sans sugar and excess carbs. The crust is also low-carb, and shoutout to Wholesome Yum for being a gold mine for my low-carb needs. I’m holding out till Thanksgiving morning to have some pie (I’m not making any promises, though, and I still got dinner to eat), but the chaffles–paired with some sugar-free maple syrup and whipped cream–were *chef’s kiss* delectable.

Scenes From A Road Trip (Part 2)

A spectacular view of the LA skyline from the Jerome C. Daniel Overlook on Mulholland Drive.

Wasn’t I in LA just three weeks ago? And I know I came back from my So-Cal vacation a little over a week ago, and–not surprising–I wish my vacay didn’t end. It was my first vacation in three years, and I made the most of it, including staying an extra day in So-Cal. I needed it!

Here’s part one of my road trip pics, and the rest of part two is after the cut.

Now Playing (11.12.22)

Music to rouse the rebel girl in you! Courtesy of two of my music idols, Peaches (who celebrated her birthday yesterday, and whom I’ve had the pleasure of seeing perform live–twice), and Kathleen Hanna (of Bikini Kill, who celebrates her birthday today!). LOVE them both.

No Tricks, Just Treats

new candle + book 2

Happy Halloween, everyone! Check out my IG to see what I’ll be dressing up as this year.

To celebrate my 1st day into my “25th” year on earth, I shall burn one of the most savory-scented candles I’ve ever lit: Voluspa’s Rose Petal Ice Cream. Even in a cold burn, the candle smells delish! (And thanks to my Airbnb host for allowing candles in my vacation rental.) To accompany it, a book that’s been on my must-read-right-now list: Marilyn In Manhattan by Elizabeth Winder. Unlike certain people, I prefer to see Marilyn in a positive, empowering light.

Call Me Lex

Why Lex? Why not? It sounds cool and it’s also short for Lexine. I finally found my new pen name!

And don’t worry–I’m sticking with it this time.

I changed all my social media handles (see sidebar) to reflect my new nom de plume. I’m also on vacation at the moment, and I’ll be posting some pics soon, so come follow me!

(Pen) Name Change

The title says it all. As much as I liked “Bria Leone” as a pen name, I’ve decided to drop it in favor of another nom de plume…that I’m still deciding on. My reasons to ditch it are personal, and it’s a decision as tough as coming up with a new name. It’s not just finding a standout moniker; it’s also seeing if the name has been taken by others and taking the time to research it all. It may sound easy, but some of us have full-time jobs that keeps us away from the internet most of the time and also have an upcoming vacation to prepare. Like me. Oh, why couldn’t I have been born as Bria Leone? (Speaking of which, I’ll be keeping the blog’s website name for now until I settle on a new name.)

Ah well, time to hit up the ol’ trusty Pen Name Generator again.
