It’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day today, and while it may seem odd to also include a quote from the late, great Muhammad Ali (whose birthday was this past Saturday), I feel like Ali’s words (and the life he lived) befits the meaning of MLK Day. Cliched as this sounds, their words are the fighting spirit we need more than ever these days.Â

Violence is always wrong and so is promoting harmful ideologies such as racism, misogyny, homophobia/transphobia, and white supremacy (and promoting it all for profit). Thus, I send my condolences to those affected in the Colorado school shooting (a news story that is heinously being buried by mainstream media) and that’s it. If one wants my respects in their death, simply put: don’t be a disgusting asshole in life.

Maybe one day in the not-too-distant future will similar words be said about Americans.
Between this entry and this from two weeks ago, I think I’ll be celebrating special days of countries I admire (and would like to immigrate to if I win a big lottery jackpot) on this blog from here on out. Because what is there to celebrate in the States these days?
